BACKGROUND

Adela was born in the 8th Century in Spain when Muslims had conquered much of Spain. Her family took her and hid in the mountains North of the Iberian Peninsula. Then, she became a Slayer and became involved in the Reconquista of Spain. Reconquista is a Spanish word for rebuilding the country after the Muslim conquest, and she wanted to help drive off the Muslims. She adopted the identity of a male and joined the local militia. Eventually there were able to drive out some of the Muslims there. She was also involved in The Battle of Covadonga in 711 AD. It was there she slayed her first vampires who were feeding off the corpses there. As an act of revenge, she was turned into a vampire by a Muslim general. This general also killed her entire family in front of her eyes, and she has never forgiven him for that. She was imprisoned for five years, but when she escaped she vowed she would never be victimized again and take revenge upon her sire.

Ten years later, she came across Azmodeus. She had found her sire several times but he had escaped several confrontations with her. Azmodeus offered her even more power to gain revenge, and so she accepted. He then put her into suspension. She is currently in a container under the local church and has been there for this entire time. Although only the Church’s Deacon knows about it. The church was built over the site hundreds of years later in the year 1869.

BACKGROUND:

Maryam is the Mayor’s daughter. She became a slayer when Willow cast her spell to activate all Slayers around the world. She is very much into sports and has a sports scholarship to a University of her choice, but she wishes to finish her courses here first.

When she was on a date her date took her to the local cemetery. He turned to be a vampire and tried to take her down. Brandy was nearby and told her how to kill a vampire. When Brandy offered to train her, she accepted the offer.

BACKGROUND

When she was twelve she was bitten by a werewolf. Her father recruited her into the Watcher’s society to help her learn how to control the changes and over the years she did. When she left high school she entered college and began to study medicine with the intent of finding a cure for lycanthrope and helping people who was bitten. Her research led her to a colony of werewolves in California and followed those rumor here. Eventually she landed a teaching position as a teacher of French. Eventually she became the dean. She just recently became Maryam’s Watcher.

She was a survivor of the explosion that destroyed the Watcher's council.

BACKGROUND:


Her father was her hero. Her father was the Scout Master who often broke the rules and brought her along when they went camping. When she was fourteen she went on one of these camping trips and they found an abandoned mine. The boys went into an abandoned mine and the mine collapsed trapping them inside. The boys that were outside the mine went for help and her father used his knowledge of first aid to save other boys lives. This was also the event that triggered her Psionic abilities. She used her healing ability on one of the boys, and it turned out to be a member of the Yellow Lotus Club.


Later he became a medical doctor. Kai recruited him for her Psionics and medical knowledge. She is also Kai Jin’s lover, and is one of the very few things he loves, other than his pet Marten, Xin To.

The War Of The Dragons

This is a Mini setting for Buffy The Vampire Slayer RPG from EDEN Studios.

The Premise is that dragons are a live and well and are older than human beings and were the first sentient life to develop on the planet.They developed the first civilization which was eventually destroyed in an ancient nuclear holocaust.

The nuclear holocaust tore at the dimensional barriers. In some places it weakened, in others it was totally torn asunder. One of those places is a volcano called Mount Shasta. They were able to harness the power of alternate realities there, but another disaster happened. What that disaster was remains a mystery. This nexus is the most powerful one on earth, and the dragons who control it have ultimate power.

Before he was even born, an unknown assailant raped his mother. When his parent found out he was pregnant, they kept him anyway. During as a kid he was involved in the Church choir. During school season he would stay with his mother. During the summer he would tour the country with his father singing traditional country and bluegrass with his mother and father.

As it turns out, the man who raped his mother was a half demon who was being driven insane by his visions. In atonement he began teaching Terrence how to defend himself in martial arts and other fighting techniques in order to prepare him for the day his clan would come and claim him. His father belongs to a demon clan called the Tomalawk who values seers above all else. However, they do not value physical violence and actually have a collective fear of physical strength. In this clan, a seer is born once every generation and a generation for this clan is fifty years. Once every ten generations a seer is born with vast strength and is considered cursed, and is believed to destroy all Tomalawk demons through this curse. These special individuals are often destroyed or exiled to another dimension.

Terrence is 42 now, and has used his psychic abilities to help people. He first helped the local police solve a crime when he was fifteen in the town of Baghdad Carolina. He does have a successful recording career and sings country music.

When he was seventeen he and a group of The Yellow lotus clan came under ambush from corporate forces. A package he was carrying exploded, exposing him to an unusual chemical. He was able to escape.

After this incident, his father disowned him. He joined the military. After he left the military he joined Kai Jin. He was promised to be raised to godhood with him.

BACKGROUND:

Su Mei is a multiple personality. His main personality is Su Mei, who tries to do good whenever he can. His secondary personality is Terrence Johnson, who willingly serves Kai Jin out of a lust for chaos and blood. Su Mei serves because he believes Kai Jin has his entire family kidnapped and under threat, although this isn’t true at all. However, he will take any opportunity he can to undermine Kai Jin, as long as his safety is not compromised.

Su Mei was an overweight kid whom everybody picked on so he became a lawyer to get back at people. He was very overweight and decided to join a new medical facility to try out a new drug to help him lose weight fast. It worked all to well. A week later his powers manifested.

He has a strong distaste for fieldwork, and prefers to spend his time in front of computers.

BACKGROUND:

Kai Jin was born in Hong Kong sixty years ago. When he was five he got into his first fight with a local tong calling itself The Yellow Lotus. They simply wanted his candy and he was not about to give it to them. So he got into a fight, and lost terribly. But he did take out two of the ten older kids, and that was enough for his teacher to start training him in Martial Arts.

He was constantly fighting this Tong and so joined a rival Tong when he was twelve. His teacher was disappointed in him beat him up and left him for dead. Kai took his frustration out on the rival Tong. During the fight he came across the Shu talisman and found out there were more talismans. He was able to find the Niu talisman. He used both talismans to wipe out The Yellow Lotus tong and take over their school. He renamed his Tong The Yellow lotus. He now searches for the rest of the talismans.

BACKGROUND: Michael Reagan’s parents are brilliant scientists who work for Star Labs. Before he was born, they found an alien space ship that had crash landed on earth in the distant past. While she was pregnant, her son had a birth defect and they decided to experiment with the alien DNA to see if they could use it to correct the defect. They were never able to and as a result he was never able to lose weight and was always obese. He became an actor and musician out of love of making movies and making music.

Then when he was thirty-three, his powers first manifested. He found himself floating high in the atmosphere and was over Australia. It took him the better part of two days to fly home. He missed out on an important photo shoot on that day.

His mother was developing wormhole technology. He went to her for help with his powers. During this time there was an attack on her Star Lab facility by a thief calling herself Deathknell. During the fight, he damaged his mother’s device, but was able to subdue Deathknell before he was drawn into the wormhole.

He found himself on the planet Krypton, thousands of years in the past. He is currently involved in the rebellion against General Zods’ forces.

Novas in The World Of Darkness (WW)

These are rules that are designed to depower a Nova from White Wolf's game setting Aberrant. In that game, players are Novas who have a gene called the N-Shroud which gives all people who have it superhuman powers and abilities akin to a god. This shroud was activated when a satellite was destroyed.

In Aberrant any given Nova is very powerful, so powerful that they can take on a team of two or three beginning werewolves or vampires. But they are meant to be different universes and are not meant to be mixed. The house rules I present here are for the express purpose of depowering a Nova so they can be on par with any beginning Werewolf or Vampire in the World Of Darkness, should a player wants to run a Nova in the WoD.

will cost five points, or three points if bough tainted.

Willpower works the same as in WoD.

Quantum Pool can be recovered as follows:

Relaxing (light paperwork, walking) 2 per hours
Resting (sleeping, doing nothing) 4 per hour
Node background Adds background rating


MAXING POWERS AND SPECIAL MANEUVERS

A nova can max out their power by spending a temporary willpower point and a number of Quantum Points equal to each die rolled. Each success may be use to boost the next use of Quantum Power, which happens on the following turn, and must be spent on the next turn and may not be saved.

The successes may be spent on the following:

May increase damage by one per success.

May increase soaking damage by one per success.

Each success spent doubles the range or speed.

Each success spent doubles the duration of a power.

TAINT

Any taint in the WoD comes from the Wyrm. The source of a novas' power comes from beasts that have been newly discovered by Pentex. These beasts contain a chemical that can alter humans DNA by a process Pentex has been unable to discover. It is highly poisonous, and often kills the subject experimented on. A Nova is an extremely rare occurrence, appearing even less frequently than vampires or Garou. For every ten thousand vampires or Garou, there is only one Nova.

It is unknown whether or not these are new beasts or ones that have previously existed but had just never been discovered until now.

All Novas begin the game with Zero Taint. There is permanent and temporary taint. The more taint a character gains the more inhuman they become.

Taint is gained in the following ways:

Having a Quantum rating above 5, one taint for each dot, so that a Quantum rating of 7 would give two points of permanent taint.

For having the background Node, if it is at 4 that is one point of permanent taint, if at 5 it is a two points at permanent taint.

Buying tainted powers imposes permanent taint at one point per power.

When a nova has gained ten points of temporary taint they gain one point of permanent taint.

There are two ways to gain temporary taint:

Power Strain happens whenever a player botches a power roll that in some way uses a point of willpower to max their power. They gain one point of temporary taint.

Rapid Recovery: Whenever the player wants to enhance their recovery rate of Quantum Points, they must roll a Stamina plus Node roll vs the number of Quantum Points spent above the normal rating. A failure gains one taint, a botch gains two.

Example: A nova wants to recover 5 Extra Quantum points and has a Node of 3 with a Stamina of 5. 5 extra is three points about the normal rate, so that increases the difficulty to 9. He has a dice pool of 8 and rolls 5, 3, 7, 8, 1, 1, 1 which is a botch. He gains two points of temporary taint.

Taint can be removed by any Garou or rite gift that cleanses all taint. However, permanent taint requires a difficulty of 9 to cleanse.

Temporary taint can be bled off. Once a month a character can make a Willpower roll. Each success bleeds off one point of temporary taint. A failure means that no taint is bled off. A botch indicates that two points of temporary taint is gained.

EFFECTS OF TAINT

Taint affects the character by causing Aberrations. Aberrations are physical changes which make the character look more inhuman or cause psychic drawbacks and even unhinge his mind. In some cases these physical changes can even be inhuman perfection.

A Nova suffers one detectable aberration when he receives 3 taint. He earns one more aberration for every point thereafter.

Temporary aberrations come from temporary taint and last a number of days equal to 15 minus (Stamina + (Mega Stamina x 2)).

When permanent taint rating reaches 4 he suffers a +1 difficulty to all social rolls. The difficulty increases by a further +1 at 6, and 8 for a total of +3.

With each point of permanent taint the character must subtract one die from any willpower rolls against any mental disorders.

When permanent taint reaches ten the character becomes too inhuman and must be cleansed immediately. Any failure means the character is lost for ever due to becoming too inhuman.

Abberations can be found on pages 151-153 on the core book.

MEGA ATTRIBUTES


Mega attributes do not replace Attributes but supplement them. This means that for each dot in a mega-attribute also adds one die to the related attribute. A mega-attribute may not be increased beyond the normal attribute rating. For example, with a Dexterity of 2 a player may not purchase more than two dots of mega-dexterity.

Mega attributes can be bought tainted. Tainted attributes gain one point of permanent taint per dot and will gain two dots per nova point spent.

A character may select one enhancement for free. Thereafter he must buy any further enhancements as a level one power. They may not be bought tainted.

Mega Attributes cost no Quantum points to use.

No mega attributes contribute automatic successes to their actions, but otherwise stay the same.

For example, on page 156 it says a Mega Attribute of 3 can lift 25 tons and gain a bonus of 15 automatic success to any die pools regarding mega Strength. In the WoD they can still lift 25 tons but will not receive that 15 automatic success.

In the World of Darkness there are no automatic successes for Novas.

When any enhancement says to add a certain amount of extra automatic successes, those are additional dice to the dice pool.

Quickness is bought under Mega Dexterity and not under Mega Wits.

Mega Stats are treated as Vampiric Discileplines as follows:

Mega Strength is treated as Potence
Mega Stamina Is treated as Fortitude
Mega Dexterity is treated as Celerity.

Except for the enhancements which must be bought as normal.

BACKGROUND

Barry Teller was an Olympic level gymnast who has won three gold medals and a half dozen silver medals for gymnastics. When he retired he was hired by Pentex to be a spokesman for them. Eventually they wiped his memory with drugs and trained him to be an assassin. His death was faked.

Blood Of The Eagle 2 (PHU)

This is an adventure seed.

The basic idea is this. There are 12 different Chinese Talismans out there. Each Talisman is based on the Chinese Zodiac and each grants a power. Their purpose is to transform the character into a God-Dragon (Dragons And Gods pg 223), There is only one place this can be done and that is at the Emperor's tomb in China. There is only one time this can be done, and that is during the galactic alignment that happens every 26,000 years. So the next time this can happen is on December 12th, 2012. They are all consumed in the process as their power is needed for the transformation. The transformation releases an explosion that destroys everything, even MDC structures within a four mile radius.

Each talisman has a curse. Each use of each Talisman does 1d6 damage to the user.

The 12 talismans are as follows:

Shu (rat): Adhesion,
Niu (ox): Supernatural strength,
Hu (Tiger): See Invisible
Tu (Rabbit): Heightened sense of hearing
Long (dragon): Chi Gung (Body Hardening Excercise, Ninjas & Superspies pg 117)
She (Snake): Alter Physical Body
Ma (horse): Sonic Speed
Yang (goat): Extraordinary Physical Beauty
Hou (monkey): Karmic Power
Gou (dog): Heightened Sense Of Smell
Rooster: Wingless flight
Zhu (pig): Multiple Beings/Selves


Each power can be used in addition to any other powers or supernatural abilities a character may possess so these have the potential of turning any one into a powerhouse.

And that is why they're sought after.

The main antagonist is a character who an an 8th level Ancient Master, one Kai Jin. He runs a martial arts school, the most powerful school in all of China. His agents scour the world for any news of the talismans.

Still to come: Kai Jin, his school, and the heroes who oppose him.

Palladium House Rules 1.

I love the Palladium games but one of the things that has always struck me is that a lot of the class abilities and skill success rates were just arbitrarily chosen and there seems no real way to balance things out.

So the primary idea is to balance the system at least a little bit. So my first idea is to streamline skills. Instead of each class having a different success rate, the same group of skills would have the same success rates as follows:

OCC skills have a base of 40% plus 3% per level following the first.
OCC Related Skills have a base of 35% plus 3% per level following the first.
Skill Programs have the same rate as OCC related skills.
Secondary Skills have a base of 30% plus 3% per level following the first.

These rates are further modified by the Intelligence Quotient bonus and any other appropriate bonuses found in either determining the education level of the character (PHU pg 44 & 45) or OCC class skill sections.

XUE YING


Xue Ying is a bicycle that was created for Xin Mao, a Nei Chia Wu Shi (Mystic China pg 45) who had come to America to seek out a cure for a disease that had struck his Martial Arts instructor who was actually a Demigod masquerading as an immortal martial arts teacher in China. Xin had come across a lot of clues that had led him to America, and in his travels he found the cure and was able to return it to the teacher. In gratitude, his teacher presented with him this magical bicycle. Xin still doesn't know his teacher is actually a Demigod who wishes to keep his identity unknown and hidden.

The bicycle looks like an unassuming ordinary mountain bike. However, it is a fully sentient being and is equivalent to a Weapon Of Good. It is indestructible with a base damage of 4d6.

Weapons of Order can be found in the PHU on page 146. Xue has these particular abilities:

Adds 30 SDC.
Provides +3 to save versus all magic and spells.
Provides See The Invisible at will.
Creates a martial arts battle dress for Xin that is essentially a tiger motif gi.
Instills Extraordinary Speed and Healing Factor.
Has Healing Touch, Turn Invisible (both rider and bike), Fly, Mystic Shield, and Supernatural Strength.

It considers Xin its rightful owner.

First Post

Hello and welcome to my blog. This is my first post and I will begin a little bit about me. I have been playing role-playing games since the early 1980s and I began with 1st Edition Dungeons and Dragons. Then came Marvel Superheroes, the classic FASERIP system for playing superheroes from Marvel Comics such as Spider-Man and the X-Men. Then came Palladium and a lot of other different games followed. I've been collecting RPGS for years, but I guess if I had to stick with the systems, it would be 2nd Edition for D&D and swords and sorcery role playing, Palladium for martial arts, DC Heroes for superheroes, and old White Wolf games of Werewolf The Apocalypse, Mage The awakening, Hunter The Reckoning, and Vampire the Masquerade, and the Unisystem for AFMBE.

This blog will be about ideas that I have for games, character concepts and snippets of settings.

In this Blog you will also have the occasional grognard article, an article which will have something new for an old game. In game terms a grognard is someone who is stuck on a previous edition of a game. For example, I am partial to 2nd Edition D&D, but will not touch 4th Edition. For me, it is just getting too expensive to collect these books anymore since the are often thirty five dollars or more and I just want to keep things simple. There is such an explosion of game material now and it is difficult to keep up, especially when the rules change every other year or so. For other people it is just their favorite edition to play.
