Antherus, Part One (Generic Game Setting)

Introduction: One of my favorite styles of games is to play people who have been displaced in time, space, and dimensions. My favorite Saturday morning shows were Dungeons And Dragons and Land Of The Lost. Then came Army Of Darkness and Sliders. So the idea to this world is to create a world in which these kinds of displaced people can come to to find out how they would survive and see if they could find their way home, or even stay. This is primarily created to mix super heroes with a swords and sorcery setting, but many other kinds of characters can be brought here through some sort of means, and usually an accident. But the focus will be on superheroes. The systems used will be for Palladium, DC Heroes, and Aberrant d20.

HISTORY OF ANTHERUS


The history of Antherus is not a long one. The citizens are refugees from a previous world that had been destroyed in an Apocalypse when a flight of thousands upon thousands of dragons ravaged the entire world. One man, Michael Antherus, created a gateway to this world and brought the survivors here. Over a course of 775 years, the survivors prospered in a harsh land.

The history of the world begins with one man, one Michael Antherus, for which the world is named after. He was the son of a wealthy Merchant who wanted the world for his son. As a child Michael started having visions of a world on fire, and then spontaneous bursts of magic would happen with random effects. When he accidentally turned his mother into a Gerbil, his father sent him to the Wizard’s guild.

When he finished his apprenticeship at the Wizard’s Guild, he graduated with the highest marks possible, until it was learned that he was not a Wizard but instead was able to produce magical effects spontaneously. He was cast out because of the jealousy of the Wizards who could only learn by route. Still, he’d learned enough and he began to search the world for the meaning of his visions that had plagued him

He found a Seer at a temple who gave him his answers. Then he began to search for a way to save anybody he could. Along the way he met his Shaper friend, Fujit DeNuryn. Fujit was a Psionicist who could create any matter he wanted, and was much sought after by rulers and other nobles to make entire castles for them and vastly increase their personal wealth and power. So he spent much of his life in hiding.

They became friends when they joined forces to help eliminate the threat of Kobolds who had cursed a town in order to drive out the people there. They shared many adventures. And together, they found the means to create a magical gateway to another world. And they began to make preparations for the time that the world would be destroyed in fire.

He took it to the Wizard’s council, and even with the evidence he brought to them, they would not accept his word. Eventually he created the gateway which will lead him and the survivors to Antherus.

HOUSE RULES FOR D20 GAMES

These are the rules that I use for any d20 game. For the most part one should create a character as normal. They may roll randomly, use a 32-point buy, or choose these scores: 17, 15, 14, 12, 12, 10. If they choose to roll randomly they may roll 5d6 for each score and discard the lowest die.

Cost of 32 point buy.

BASE SAVES.

A player may choose either a defense option or an offense option. They get to choose in which saves their base saves
A defense option has better saves but lesser attack bonuses, an offense option has lesser save and Each save bonus must be assigned to a saving throw category.

For example, Steven chooses the defense option. He puts base save one into Fortitude, base save 2 in Reflex, and base save 3 into Willpower.

Once assigned, the placing never changes.

Note: For saves, some d20 games have classes that only go up to level 10. For the base save, the table only go up to level ten. For prestige classes, they only go to the maximum level of the prestige class.



SKILLS.

A character may choose 10 skills for their character class skills. These skills cost one skill point per rank. All others cost 2 skill points per rank. The maximum rank level in each skill is equal to character level plus three, and any non-class skill is equal to half that score. For example, a 4th level character can have a maxi rank of 8 skill ranks in their class skills but only 4 skill ranks in their non skill class,

A character starts out with 32 skill points plus Intelligence modifier at first level. Every level after that starting at level 2 they get 8 plus their Intelligence modifier

CLASS

A player may choose a class if they so desire. They get the benefits of the class they choose. However, some classes require other classes. For example, in Urban Arcana d20, those classes were designed to be used with the d20 Modern beginning classes. For Dungeons and Dragons, this is not necessary unless they wish to qualify for a prestige class.

FEATS

All human characters get to start out with two feats. All non-human characters get one feat.

IMPORTANT: These rules cover all d20 games, and supplant the rules in all d20 games. For example, in Dungeons And Dragons, you should use the Base Save Options and choose either offense Option or Defense Option for their saves and put them where they want.

BACKGROUND

Adela was born in the 8th Century in Spain when Muslims had conquered much of Spain. Her family took her and hid in the mountains North of the Iberian Peninsula. Then, she became a Slayer and became involved in the Reconquista of Spain. Reconquista is a Spanish word for rebuilding the country after the Muslim conquest, and she wanted to help drive off the Muslims. She adopted the identity of a male and joined the local militia. Eventually there were able to drive out some of the Muslims there. She was also involved in The Battle of Covadonga in 711 AD. It was there she slayed her first vampires who were feeding off the corpses there. As an act of revenge, she was turned into a vampire by a Muslim general. This general also killed her entire family in front of her eyes, and she has never forgiven him for that. She was imprisoned for five years, but when she escaped she vowed she would never be victimized again and take revenge upon her sire.

Ten years later, she came across Azmodeus. She had found her sire several times but he had escaped several confrontations with her. Azmodeus offered her even more power to gain revenge, and so she accepted. He then put her into suspension. She is currently in a container under the local church and has been there for this entire time. Although only the Church’s Deacon knows about it. The church was built over the site hundreds of years later in the year 1869.

BACKGROUND:

Maryam is the Mayor’s daughter. She became a slayer when Willow cast her spell to activate all Slayers around the world. She is very much into sports and has a sports scholarship to a University of her choice, but she wishes to finish her courses here first.

When she was on a date her date took her to the local cemetery. He turned to be a vampire and tried to take her down. Brandy was nearby and told her how to kill a vampire. When Brandy offered to train her, she accepted the offer.

BACKGROUND

When she was twelve she was bitten by a werewolf. Her father recruited her into the Watcher’s society to help her learn how to control the changes and over the years she did. When she left high school she entered college and began to study medicine with the intent of finding a cure for lycanthrope and helping people who was bitten. Her research led her to a colony of werewolves in California and followed those rumor here. Eventually she landed a teaching position as a teacher of French. Eventually she became the dean. She just recently became Maryam’s Watcher.

She was a survivor of the explosion that destroyed the Watcher's council.

BACKGROUND:


Her father was her hero. Her father was the Scout Master who often broke the rules and brought her along when they went camping. When she was fourteen she went on one of these camping trips and they found an abandoned mine. The boys went into an abandoned mine and the mine collapsed trapping them inside. The boys that were outside the mine went for help and her father used his knowledge of first aid to save other boys lives. This was also the event that triggered her Psionic abilities. She used her healing ability on one of the boys, and it turned out to be a member of the Yellow Lotus Club.


Later he became a medical doctor. Kai recruited him for her Psionics and medical knowledge. She is also Kai Jin’s lover, and is one of the very few things he loves, other than his pet Marten, Xin To.

But Xin is the wild card of the group and might not allow Kai to become a god-dragon. He simply doesn’t want Kai to hurt himself.

The War Of The Dragons

This is a Mini setting for Buffy The Vampire Slayer RPG from EDEN Studios.

The Premise is that dragons are a live and well and are older than human beings and were the first sentient life to develop on the planet.They developed the first civilization which was eventually destroyed in an ancient nuclear holocaust.

The nuclear holocaust tore at the dimensional barriers. In some places it weakened, in others it was totally torn asunder. One of those places is a volcano called Mount Shasta. They were able to harness the power of alternate realities there, but another disaster happened. What that disaster was remains a mystery. This nexus is the most powerful one on earth, and the dragons who control it have ultimate power.

Before he was even born, an unknown assailant raped his mother. When his parent found out he was pregnant, they kept him anyway. During as a kid he was involved in the Church choir. During school season he would stay with his mother. During the summer he would tour the country with his father singing traditional country and bluegrass with his mother and father.

As it turns out, the man who raped his mother was a half demon who was being driven insane by his visions. In atonement he began teaching Terrence how to defend himself in martial arts and other fighting techniques in order to prepare him for the day his clan would come and claim him. His father belongs to a demon clan called the Tomalawk who values seers above all else. However, they do not value physical violence and actually have a collective fear of physical strength. In this clan, a seer is born once every generation and a generation for this clan is fifty years. Once every ten generations a seer is born with vast strength and is considered cursed, and is believed to destroy all Tomalawk demons through this curse. These special individuals are often destroyed or exiled to another dimension.

Terrence is 42 now, and has used his psychic abilities to help people. He first helped the local police solve a crime when he was fifteen in the town of Baghdad Carolina. He does have a successful recording career and sings country music.
